Research skills importance for every activity

Research skills are important for every activity we do, including our work, our education, our other activities (such as social, political, religious, or charitable work), and even our personal lives. We often must find information–not to support the writings and speeches made in those contexts.

For this research assignment, you get to practice researching non-scholarly information. (Lucky you. lol)

Below are seven quotes and the person who is attributed to have originated the quote. Many times we use quoted material indiscriminately in our writings and speeches and rely on Goodreads, Brainy Quotes, Pinterest, and other internet sources for source material. Not surprisingly, many of those sources state the actual quote incorrectly or the person identified as the originator of the quote never made the statement or did not make the statement first.

For example, many quotation websites claim that Mohandas Ghandi (activist for nonviolence) stated, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” The first verifiable record of that language is by Arlene Lorrance in a “The Love Project” published in 1974, well after Ghandi’s death in 1948. We need not wait to see what others do. Your goal is to find theoriginalsource ofthreeof these quotes, provide that source information, and confirm that the direct quote and the person identified as making that statement are correct. (Amazon, Google Books, and Internet Archive: Digital Library (archive.org) provide ways to search the contents of many books.)

When providing original source information, give all the information you would for an MLA cite for a and the URL (if you have it). If the quotation is incorrect, explain how it is incorrect. If the person identify as making the statement is incorrect, explain that information as well. Any information you provide about the quote and its originator should be backed up with source information.

Extra credit: You can earn5 pointsextra credit for providing the same information about any of the other quotations. (For one extra quote, you receive 5 points. Provide the information for four quotes not part of your original submission, and you receive 20 points.)
