Is there a relationship between obesity and socio-economic status? Should obese people be considered a protected class under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act? Should this decision carry over to those that are morbidly underweight? Please include the name of the person or question to which you are replying in the subject line. For example, “Tom’s response to Susan’s comment.”

This is a great topic, I personally was morbidly obese person at a weight of 375 and recently had bariatric surgery to lose the weight. I do not think that the obese population should be protected under the Title VII but I think that there are some cases where a company will not hire an obese person for health concerns, appearance concerns and lets face it they think the person is lazy. I do not believe that there is a link to socio-economic as well, in my case a motor vehicle accident left me stationary for a long time which caused me to slowly put on the pounds, and yes physical activity became extremely difficult but I did it. I rode my mountain bike 5-6 miles a day, every day ate right and still was not dropping weight. Part of the reason I did bariatric surgery is first and foremost my health, but the next reason is I will never be an executive with an organization until I am at a smaller weight size. That is just the reality of the world in which we live. Whether a person is underweight or over weight should never be the determing factor, what can they as an active team member bring to your organization is the only question that should be asked. Great Topic.

Research is an important component of reports. If you have not already done so, take the time to familiarize yourself with the , particularly the databases. Choose a database that you find of particular interest, and summarize its purpose. Provide an example of your experience with research, including the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Carla’s Response:
I enjoy searching on eh Academic One File. It is easy to maneuver and get around the site. I have no problem with finding what I need. I find sometimes it is hard to locate some articles if I am entering the information incorrectly. Even though I can look for items with just a few words and an asterisk I still have to be precise. Otherwise this is one of the easiest database to use.

I use the Academic One File, found under the CSU Online Library resources page. This data-base has provided me with the best sources of information for every paper I have written while attending CSU. The purpose of the Academic One File is to provide students with a rich array of online sources that can be used to research any topic. With peer reviewed articles, books, journal sources and online academic papers, this database is a way to find information right at hand without having to browse local libraries or bookstores.
I used the Academic One File for all my History classes, including the one I am now taking. While I love its deep well of sources, I can say that on occasion I was ready to toss the computer out the window before I figured out how to Pidgeon-hole the finite use of keywords it requires! I now have it down to a fine art! Since I work all my papers from a pre-conceived outline, and sub-sections, I then work to fill in subject matter based on sub-headings. This does not always work outMany times I have sat and banged my key-board when the database failed to give me what I felt was needed based on its constant, or so it appeared at the time, need to give me sources that fit nowhere into my thought processes. Eventually I discovered the keywords were the key to success, and then the database was my friend.
