Role of a Nurse in Design and Implementation of New
Healthcare Programs

Nurses have a significant responsibility in helping
design and implement effective healthcare programs fundamental for achieving the
best quality healthcare at the lowest costs. Nurses must become involved
throughout the healthcare system to design and deliver highly effective
healthcare system programs that fulfill healthcare goals. A healthcare program
within my practice involving nurses is training nurses on the utilization of
(EHR) to improve patient documentation accuracy.
Since nurses are end-users of an EHR system, training costs are $1,500 per
nurse, but the pricing may vary depending on the training provider (Ramsey,
2021). The projected outcomes of the training program are improved
documentation, hence the quality of care, and reduced costs at the healthcare
facility. Effective utilization of the EHR among the nurses will be important
in the of healthcare costs, hence a valuable investment for
the organization.

The target population for the EHR training program is
nurses working in the Emergency, In-Patient, and Out-Patient departments of the
healthcare organization. A nurse plays a critical role in providing input for
the design of the EHR training program in healthcare because the nurse leader
understands the learning needs of the nurses that should need fulfillment. The
nurse leader interacts with the nurses daily and can figure out what areas the
nurses encounter difficulty when using the EHR system. For example, the nurse
leader can understand whether the nurses in different departments have a
problem with the copy and paste function of the EHR. Therefore, the leader
nurse is a crucial resource for recommending appropriate lessons that must be
considered in the training process to fulfill all the training needs of the
nurses in the three departments.

As an advocate for nurses in this healthcare training
program, my role is to ensure that all the training needs of individual nurses
are identified and covered. Every nurse has unique learning needs. Identifying
all the learning needs is essential for recommending a comprehensive program
that covers all nurses learning needs. The roles necessitate my input into
design decisions of the nurse training program. Besides, I will provide
important data concerning the training needs of the nurses to help impact the
design.

The nurse plays a crucial role in implementing the
healthcare program by ensuring that all nurses enrolled in the program fully
participate. The nurse leader also acts as a role model that encourages the
nurses to participate in the program and helps to address the challenges they
face during the learning process by reporting them to
(., 2020). The healthcare team members most required to implement a
program include all professionals from different departments of the healthcare
system that coordinate to deliver care. Different healthcare departments have
unique needs. Therefore, the needs must be represented by professionals from
those departments in the team seeking to create a healthcare program that
yields better care outcomes for the patients (., 2014).
