Resources Available for Communities about Nutrition and Healthy Eating
The resources available for communities about nutrition and the Child Nutrition Programs, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, healthy eating policies for community spaces and activities, accessible grocery stores and healthy food pantries, and nutrition resources and publications like (U.S. Department of Agriculture, 2021). The programs provide meals to low-income children to combat hunger and obesity, and train people on healthy diets that they can adopt for healthy living. Similarly, online resources play a crucial role in monitoring the dietary guidelines in communities.
Resources Available to Global Populations about Nutrition and Healthy Eating
The resources available for the global populations on nutrition and healthy eating include global health and like Nutrition International (NI), Helen Kelleher International (HKI) and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) (CDC, 2021). Other agencies and nutrition initiatives for the global populations include World Food Program (WFP), Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), (FFI), Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) and the CDC social media platforms called the CDC Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (CDC, 2021). These resources provide information on how to combat hunger through the endorsement of healthy foods and diets.
Challenges in Accessing These Resources
The challenges in accessing these resources include budgetary restrictions due to low income, unavailability of varieties of healthy products and the high cost of (., 2021). Budgetary restrictions created by low-income limit the peoples access to internet resources because they can utilize the funds for accessing the information to purchase supplementary foods. Similarly, the supermarkets and common marketplaces may not have a sufficient supply of the healthy products that are advised in the dietary guidelines. This move renders the information obtained from these resources invalid. Also, people may not have time and the funds to cover out-shopping or shopping outside the area of residence hindering the application of dietary guidelines.
The strategies for overcoming these problems include the advertisement of dietary guidelines on various platforms including the televisions and outlining the guidelines in schools at various eating places like the canteens as regulations (Vilar-Compte et al., 2021). Additionally, governments can subsidize the taxes on healthy foods and their transportation costs. This move will make the food accessible to everyone.
Nutritional Knowledge and Skills Learned
The course has taught me about the various diets available and their health benefits. I was unaware of these diets and I particularly like the Mediterranean diet because of its simplicity and health benefits. Additionally, the course has taught me to plan and prepare meals that will ensure that I obtain the nutrients for healthy growth and development. For instance, the Mediterranean diet requires the replacement of butter and margarine with olive oil which is healthier than the former because of its monosaturated fats.
The Areas I Could Have Learned More
I would have learned more about the advantages and disadvantages of processed/refined foods and unprocessed foods. This knowledge would prevent the unnecessary debates over the myths and misconceptions that treat processed foods as unhealthier than unprocessed ones. Similarly, I could understand how to mix the two to improve diet quality.
