The Case of Mrs. G: Client-Centered Communication
Mrs. Gs Feelings on Her Life, Family, Traditions, and Future
Based on the case analysis, it is evident that Mrs. G is nostalgic about everything revolving around her life. Such applies particularly to how she is determined to hold on to her home as such will allow her to keep the memories of her husband, who passed on, plus the life they built as a family. Her request for the nurse to visit her home more frequently provides an impression of loneliness. Further, she is not close with her children as they live in different towns and states. Mrs. G was highly dependent on her husband of 50 years, and his demise caused her to feel lost without his presence. She is only reminiscing about her life with her husband being alive.
A traditional aspect is highlighted in her refute to leave her home and relocate to a new space. As a woman, she feels she will abandon her home, which is against the traditional Hispanic practice for women as they are homemakers. Mrs. G does not appreciate her daughters concern about relocating her to an to help reduce the falling risks. She is categorical of not relocating from her home, which does not provide a safe space to discuss with her daughter. Mrs. G feels disregarded and disrespected by her children, who did not ask or consult her regarding the relocation to the facility. They overstepped her boundaries and instead sought an assisted living facility suiting her, which they expected she would gladly accept.
Did Mrs. Gs Response to Her Daughter Surprise You? Please Explain Your Answer
Mrs. Gs response does not surprise me at all. First, every individual should be involved respectfully on any issue revolving around their livelihood. At her old age, she has lived in the same house for more than 35 years and feels safe in it. Therefore, relocating to a new location can be very scary as she is required to build new relationships with other elderly people. Besides, the relocation will interrupt her livelihood and may seem like an abandonment of her marital home, where she spent most of her life with her family. Furthermore, she is observant of her culture, where she focuses on maintaining the traditional role of a woman by staying at her home while . She opts for her home nurse to visit more often. At her advanced stage, she is more likely to resist the changes as she will focus on maintaining her status quo in life. Further, not being involved or consulted on such an important decision, including her, feels disrespectful, especially from her children.
Potential Influence of Mrs. Gs Culture in her Decision
Her culture may influence her not to relocate. First, she is defined as a homemaker based on the Hispanic traditions of women. Therefore, she may feel that her home will be complete only if her presence is there. Thus, leaving her matrimonial home will seem like an abandonment of her identity as a wife and a mother. Secondly, Hispanics believe that death is not a life end but only a transition to the spirit world, whereby the dead can still communicate with their loved ones. Hence, she may feel that her husbands spirit is still present at their home, and her relocation to the facility will mean abandoning her husbands presence. Thirdly, culture insinuates that parents are wiser than their children. Such makes it difficult for Mrs. G to follow her childrens decisions on relocation without consulting her and facilitating her participation in the decision made. Hence, the relocation will alleviate her identity as a Hispanic woman.
Care and Compassion Illustration and Non-Verbal Communication
As Mrs. Gs daughter, there are different actions I would have implemented to show my care and compassion for my mother. For instance, I would often visit her and talk about what she wants in life. I would relocate to a nearby location to my home to enhance my regular visitations whenever she needs my help or has any concerns. I would converse with her regarding what she feels is the best practice to ensure her safety at home to prevent falls. Overly, I would invest more in my physical presence to indirectly communicate my concern about her safety to her. Besides, ensuring she is safe will eliminate my worry. I would also provide additional information on age-based physical declining issues. This will ensure she understands that falling is normal at her age, and there are several solutions to reduce that risk. The information will be a subtle suggestion for Mrs. G to ask for help as her situation of falling will only worsen over time. Therefore, the worried expression and literature would influence her to relocate to an assisted living facility willingly.
Resources and Collaborations to Ensure Her Safety If She Stands Firm of Not Leaving Her House
Based on this case study, there is a higher chance that Mrs. G will not leave her house. In that case, the daughter and various healthcare providers must find essential resources and collaborations to ensure Mrs. G is safe. Firstly, Mrs. G would be taken for assisted living facility visitations. This will help her determine how her peers are cared for and their coping capacity in these homes or facilities. Therefore, these visits might enlighten her on her safety prospect while eliminating concerns about relocation. If Mrs. G refuses to relocate to the facility, it will be more prudent for her family to hire around-the-clock domestic help. This will help her get more rest at home and have someone to interact with.
In addition, her physician and other healthcare professionals could be invited to offer more advice to her on the advantages of being in an assisted living facility. This will foster proper analysis on how to prevent further falling and other . Such may include hiring a therapist to offer professional services to ensure her concerns are defined while she is helped make the right decisions. Lastly, the house would be accident-proven to ensure all hazards are alleviated. For instance, renovations would help her move between floors, including a mechanical system. This will prevent her from using the stairs and eliminate the increased falling risks. Also, I would ensure call alert buttons are installed at home in case of emergencies for help involving Mrs. G.
