Capital, Class, and Globalization
This assignment will help students to gain depth on the issues of social inequality and stratification. Students will do research to tie the topics of capital, class, and globalization together. Reading the research of sociologists then making the connection between it and current events in our media will allow students to strengthen their knowledge beyond textbook reiteration.

1.Choose two types of capital discussed in chapter one. (5pts) ( 2 capitals I will do are FINANCIAL CAPITAL and SOCIAL CAPITAL)
2.Use a database from the Wichita State University library for academic journals (JSTOR or SocIndex)(5pts)
a.Find an article that focuses on class as the central issue
b.The a qualitative study for more detail
c.Read the article to use in conjunction with your paper
d.Direct quotes are allowed but keep them to a maximum of three brief statements
3.Search the news media for a current (within 1 yr) event that ties into the discussion in your academic journal article (5pts)
a.This must be a news article from an actual news source, not a blog or such as the Huffington Post
b.Search by using the main topic of your academic article and precede it with news about or follow it with in the news or news story.
Once you have all of your sources you are to write a 4-5 page essay that addresses the following:
Initially, discuss how the two types of capital differ among the wealthy, middle-class, and poor (10pts)
Next indicate whether the two types of capital might interrelate, influencing each other (10pts)
Then give the major points of the academic journal article (10pts)
oExplain how the types of capital play a role in this article (5pts)
Give the major points of the new article (10pts)
oWrite a brief comparison of this article with your academic article (5pt)
oAnswer: Do capital and class play the same role in these articles? (5pts)
Conclude your paper by discussing how globalization can affect the capital and class discussed in your paper (10pts)
