The aspects of climate change that most scientists agree with are that people and their activities are altering the atmosphere’s chemical composition. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ascertains this fact by explaining that the three , carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, have increased in the atmosphere dramatically since the inception of the fossil fuel consumption age. The other body of scientists that confirms these aspects is the US National Academy of Sciences. This body revealed that the Earth’s temperature has increased by one degree Fahrenheit over the past millennium.
On the other hand, the aspects of climate change that scientists are less certain about include the rising of global temperatures by 2.2 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit by 2100, with the early signs being the current climate change issues. Other aspects include the Earth losing its capacity to , a rise in water evaporation rates leading to drying in some areas, torrential rain due to melting glaciers, and the likelihood of El Nino weather patterns (Sturm et al., 2003). Scientists are divided about the possibility of these events happening as time progresses.
An action that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol have adopted is to lower the greenhouse gasses emitted into the atmosphere. This move will contain the challenge of global warming. Furthermore, this action will involve improvement in technology to change manufacturing activities, energy sources, and automobiles that generate greenhouse gasses with advanced alternatives.
Similarly, Americans have the greatest opportunity to slow the emission of greenhouse gasses because they generate the highest quantities of greenhouse gasses. Americans can slow the emissions by adopting electricity sources that do not generate greenhouse gasses like hydroelectric power and solar power. Americans should also transition to less emissive automobiles like electric vehicles.
