1. I agree that existing research and literature allows for gaps to be identified. By viewing prior research, you can make sure that you are not plagiarizing, but also see unanswered questions and begin to branch out the research topic. Seeing previous studies also gives an idea of what methods were used, the answers it provided, as well as limitations. Looking at previous studies really does strike new ideas. This is how I came about different findings for our research project in this class. Have you found that looking at previous research has created new ideas for yourself as well?

2. Clinical researchers design research studies to answer specific meaningful scientific questions to improve patients lives. Positive studies that confirm a hypothesis provide value by informing the use of effective and beneficial health care interventions. Negative studies also provide value by avoiding interventions with unproven effectiveness or for which harm outweighs the benefits (Basu, et al. 2018). Existing research and literature contribute to new research by providing valuable information on the topic being researched about what has or has not worked as a base to start your research.

3. Proposed research is important because it seeks to answer a question or solve a problem that has either not been discussed in peer-reviewed journals or has need of further exploration. The proposed research should expound upon and deepen our understanding of the topic. These topics should of course be researched ethically and should also have the goal of bettering society and the lives of those involved. Current research and literature can help the researchers narrow down their topics of discussion and can also provide insight as to what research exists and what still needs to be done. One of the other ways it can help is give a blueprint to the researchers as to how to go about researching the topic in question. It can show them what do to and what not to do based on the results of the current studies (Hacker & Sommers, 2017).

4. I like that you included the relationship and duration in your letter of recommendation. I have had some pretty long lasting relationships with old bosses and co workers that having that would be beneficial and be a plus for my application. I think it would show that I get along well with people and that I can maintain those relationships. I think as an online student, it is a little tougher for us to build relationships with our professors because we don’t see them daily and sometimes, I go a whole class without having a conversation with them. I did have one that asked us to request him on facebook so he could do lives and talk about our class. i got my first and only perfect score in his class and it was a class I was so incredibly worried about. We are still friends on facebook and I know if I reach out to him about writing a letter, he most likely would.

5.   The components of a letter of recommendation should be a quick glimpse of what qualities and tools you as the candidate are able to bring to the potential employer. The choice of who you pick to have write a letter of recommendation should weigh on those that reflect your professionalism and ability to demonstrate the skills needed for the job seeking. While friends and family may be the first go to for wanting to write a letter for you, the need for a professional letter is recommended and ofter asked per the application instructions. I personally will be requesting letters of recommendation for the next step in my journey of education from those few physicians I currently work for. In those letters I see that the qualities I bestow as far as years of experience, autonomy, self driven and being a team player will help set me apart from the other candidates I will be competing against to earn a seat in the medical program I will be applying to. My overall professional performance and current profession and/or job I am in will back these recommendations up.

6. If I chose to apply for jobs that are in relation to psychology, more specifically social work, I could use a few different people. I have used a wonderful, credited person in the past, Rockel Etienne, but unfortunately, she passed last year. She was who I was planning to use for my recommendation letter, not only for bigger career jobs, but for academic letters of recommendation. It breaks my heart that she passed away. I still will be able to use others for jobs in social work. My mom worked for DSS and I have grown to know and work with her colleges. I would ask them to write me one. They know who I am as a person and how I work. They know that I am able to handle the job and have even offered me a position. I know that if I decide to continue my education, a letter of recommendation is needed as well. According to Kuncel, Kochevar, & Ones (2014), “Across decades, the letter of recommendation has a consistently high level of use and importance” (para 1). I would’ve had the perfect letter with Dr. Etienne’s recommendation. This is now where I am stumped. I honestly don’t want to ask anyone else, but I will need to do so. She would’ve written my letter for any job as well. I would’ve used it for an important job, and I would know potential employers would be impressed, even graduation admissions. For jobs, as for now, I will use people in the field that I currently know and know my work ethic as well and who I am as a person. I think this is the best route to take.
